MANITAI-DimensionMANITAI dimension: ENTMANITAI

You treat a new AI with the same name as if it had said, promised, or known what an earlier one under that name did.

Kennst du das?Ever had this?

Everyone still calls the new club contact by the old title, and you expect her to keep the old promise. With an AI it is the same when you credit a new system under that name with what an earlier system or session did.

DefinitionDefinition

The act by which a person attributes to a newly addressed system of artificial intelligence statements, commitments, or knowledge that come from an earlier system or an earlier session under the same name.

Was es nicht istWhat it is not

Unlike attribution in Heider (1958), the assignment of causes of a person's behavior to that person or to the situation, this act is not that assignment of causes. Unlike a source-monitoring error (Johnson, Hashtroudi, and Lindsay, 1993), a misattribution of where one's own memory came from, this act credits a newly addressed system under the same name. Unlike a session, a distinct interaction period for one conversation (Tan and others, 2025, arXiv:2503.08026), this act is not that period. Unlike name-and-voice continuity, the state in which a person addresses a named system by its name and hears the same synthetic voice while the model changes, this act is not that keeping of name and voice. Unlike agent identity persistence, the state in which one agent remains recognizable across sessions by specified features, this act is not that recognizability. Unlike loss of an item at handoff, the case at a handoff in which one task-relevant item does not reach the recipient and is missing for subsequent work, this act is not that missing transfer. Unlike context inheritance, the mechanism by which an agent takes over context information from a previous session or from another agent, this act is not that mechanism. Unlike agent-version drift, the state in which two or more participating software agents run versions that differ and that difference is relevant to their collaboration, this act is not that difference of versions.

Source: AUGMANITAI coinage (ENTMANITAI, 2026-10-16). Attribution in Heider (1958) assigns causes of a person's behavior. A source-monitoring error (Johnson, Hashtroudi, and Lindsay, 1993) misattributes the origin of one's own memory. A session in Tan and others (2025, arXiv:2503.08026) is a distinct interaction period for one conversation. earlier_source_ref is the IRI of the earlier system or of the earlier session. The rule checks that the origin of the attributed item is that earlier source and that the addressed system is new. Name-and-voice continuity, agent identity persistence, loss of an item at handoff, context inheritance, and agent-version drift are neighbouring terms in this vocabulary. No conformity to a named standard is claimed.
