You see the result of several helpers and cannot say which contributions and which connections produced it.

Kennst du das?Ever had this?

The poster for the club fair is up, and you cannot say which sentence came from whom or how the sentences connect.

DefinitionDefinition

A state of a swarm in which a named observer cannot reconstruct which contributions and which connections produced a group output.

Was es nicht istWhat it is not

Unlike opacity as a general lack of interpretability of one model, swarm opacity is the inability of observers to reconstruct which contributions and which connections produced a group output of a swarm. Unlike an orchestrator blindspot, the gap is on the observer's side and concerns that reconstruction, not the coordinator's missing view of interactions between subtasks. Unlike decision provenance loss, which concerns the reasons, sources or authority of a decision, this term concerns the contributions and the connections of a group output. This term is not a profile of W3C PROV-O and it does not map contributions or connections onto prov:wasGeneratedBy or prov:wasAssociatedWith.

Source: SWAMANITAI conceptual working definition SWA26-0018. Opacity is already used for a general lack of interpretability of one model. The same source set distinguishes this state from an orchestrator blindspot. The condition is stated for one named observer. A single named observer is not the group of observers. No conformity to a named standard is claimed.

Für OrganisationenFor organisations

Names the case of a swarm in which observers cannot reconstruct which contributions and which connections produced a group output.
