KernbegriffCore term

The file still says what was decided. What you can no longer find is the reason, the source, or who was allowed to decide it.

Kennst du das?Ever had this?

The shopping list only says no ice cream, and you can no longer find who said it, why, or whether that person was allowed to decide. With an answering program, a decision's result can stay in the handover while the reasons, sources, or authority are missing.

DefinitionDefinition

The survival of a decision's outcome in a record or handover while the reasons, sources or authority on which it rested are no longer recoverable.

Was es nicht istWhat it is not

“Decision provenance” denotes recording where automated and human decisions come from; decision provenance loss names the failure in which the outcome survives but that provenance does not. Unlike the loss of a decision record, the outcome remains in place.
