KernbegriffCore term
Befehl bei stillem KörperStill-body command
MANITAI-DimensionMANITAI dimension: BRAMANITAI
You give the interface a command by only picturing a movement, and your body does not carry it out.
Kennst du das?Ever had this?
You sit in a waiting room and walk the way to the door in your mind, without lifting a foot. At the interface that pictured way is the command, and the body stays still.
DefinitionDefinition
An experience, reported by a person operating a brain–computer interface, in which that person gives a command by picturing a body movement while the body does not carry out that movement.
Was es nicht istWhat it is not
Unlike motor imagery, as Jeannerod set it out in 1995, a mental image of a movement that stays available because the movement is not carried out, a still-body command is the reported use of such a picture as a command to a brain–computer interface. Unlike motor-imagery control as a classifier paradigm (Pfurtscheller & Neuper, 2001), this term is that reported experience, not the design of the classifier. Unlike attempted-movement control, in which the person tries to move and the body does not carry that movement out, this experience concerns a movement only pictured. Unlike disembodied agency in Steinert, Bublitz, Jox and Friedrich (2019, online 2018), 'Doing Things with Thoughts', Philosophy & Technology, which treats this kind of action as not needing a bodily movement at all, this term still names a pictured body movement and the report that the body does not carry it out. Unlike a pictured-gesture split, the reported use of two or more pictured gestures for two or more results, one pictured movement is enough here. Unlike a mental-strategy search, the reported trying of more than one way to picture a command, this experience does not require a search.

RegelnRules
- Record the person, the command, that a body movement was pictured, that the body did not carry out that movement, and that movement_mode is imagined.
- Do not record a movement the body did carry out, or an attempted movement, as this command.

Motor imagery in the sense of Jeannerod (1995) is the neighboring mental-image term, and motor-imagery control as a classifier paradigm is a neighboring design, not this report. Attempted-movement control, in which the person tries to move, is delimited. This entry is the reported use of a pictured movement as a command while the body does not carry it out. ISO/IEC 8663:2025 is a vocabulary for brain–computer interface technology. IEEE P2731 is a draft terminology project; a glossary proposal from that work was published in 2021. This entry records a reported experience of operating such an interface. No conformity to ISO/IEC 8663:2025, to IEEE P2731, or to any other named standard is claimed.
