You try more than one way of picturing a command to the interface before one way holds.
Kennst du das?Ever had this?
Learning to wiggle your ears, you first think of lifting them, nothing happens, then you think of pulling them back, and that way works. At the interface you report the same search for a way of picturing the command.
DefinitionDefinition
An experience, reported by a person operating a brain–computer interface, in which that person tries more than one way of picturing a command before one way holds.
Was es nicht istWhat it is not
Unlike strategy instructions given in motor-imagery training, which tell the person which way of picturing to use, a mental-strategy search is the person's own reported trying of ways until one holds. Unlike motor imagery (Jeannerod, 1995), which is the picture of a movement, this experience is the reported trying of more than one way before one way holds. Unlike a still-body command, the report of one pictured movement the body does not carry out, this search requires more than one way tried. Unlike a pictured-gesture split, the reported assignment of two or more pictured gestures to two or more results, this experience is a search, not an assignment that is already settled.

RegelnRules
- Record the person, the command, that more than one way of picturing it was tried, and that one way then holds.
- Do not record a single pictured movement, without a prior other way, as this search, and do not record a trainer's instruction as this search.

Strategy instructions in motor-imagery training are the neighboring training practice. This entry is the person's own reported search among ways of picturing a command. ISO/IEC 8663:2025 is a vocabulary for brain–computer interface technology. IEEE P2731 is a draft terminology project; a glossary proposal from that work was published in 2021. This entry records a reported experience of operating such an interface. No conformity to ISO/IEC 8663:2025, to IEEE P2731, or to any other named standard is claimed.
Für OrganisationenFor organisations
