KernbegriffCore term
The first skill: getting an AI to give you an answer. The second: deciding beforehand what matters – and then determining whether the answer meets exactly that.
Kennst du das?Ever had this?
Anyone can copy. But saying beforehand “the date must be right” – and then checking whether it really is right on the crib sheet – is a different skill altogether. With AI answers, that is the second skill.
DefinitionDefinition
The trainable ability to determine, for a stated named property, whether a given AI output meets that property, as distinct from the ability to get an AI system to produce an output.
Was es nicht istWhat it is not
KI-Kompetenz (z.
AI literacy (e.g. Long and Magerko, 2020) includes critically evaluating AI; the second skill names the narrower, testable part of determining a named property of a specific output. In this vocabulary, prompting competence is not counted as the second skill; no position is taken on how other frameworks define AI literacy. A course certificate does not establish it.

RegelnRules
- When reporting human review, distinguish prompting competence from verification competence.
- Do not treat course completion as evidence of the second skill.

Für NormungsgremienFor standards bodies
Relevant to literacy obligations under Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, Art. 4, without claiming conformity. Evidence about a person is personal data and, where it evaluates an identified person, is profiling under GDPR Art. 4(4); it is not for ranking or evaluating individual workers or learners, and pseudonymised or aggregated records are preferred unless a legal basis exists.
Für OrganisationenFor organisations
Names a verification competence, distinct from prompting, that a person can show by catching planted errors, recorded in pseudonymised or aggregated form unless a legal basis for evaluating identified individuals exists. It is not for ranking, monitoring or evaluating individual workers or learners.
