You keep your mind on one command to the interface, and the longer the session goes, the more tired that holding makes you.
Kennst du das?Ever had this?
You listen for an hour in a quiet room for a soft sound and you are more tired near the end, although the sound stays the same. At the interface you report that grown tiredness from keeping attention on the command.
DefinitionDefinition
An experience, reported by a person operating a brain–computer interface, in which weariness from keeping attention on a command is greater later in the same session than earlier in it, and the person attributes that weariness to holding the command.
Was es nicht istWhat it is not
Unlike mental fatigue as a time-on-task effect (Boksem & Tops, 2008), this experience requires the person to attribute the weariness to holding attention on the command. Unlike the vigilance decrement (Mackworth, 1948), a measured drop in detection over time, this is the person's own report of growing tiredness tied to that holding. Unlike long-haul control, a report of keeping control going without a break for 120 minutes or more, this term requires the later weariness to be reported as greater and as coming from the holding. A person can report both.

RegelnRules
- Record the person, the session, the command, an earlier and a later time in that session, that the person reports the weariness as greater at the later time, and that the person attributes it to holding attention on the command.
- Do not record general tiredness without that attribution, and do not record the weariness as a judgment that the person cannot control the interface.

Mental fatigue as a time-on-task effect (Boksem & Tops, 2008) and the vigilance decrement (Mackworth, 1948) are the neighboring general or measured effects. This entry is reported weariness that grows within a session and is attributed to holding attention on the command. ISO/IEC 8663:2025 is a vocabulary for brain–computer interface technology. IEEE P2731 is a draft terminology project; a glossary proposal from that work was published in 2021. This entry records a reported experience of operating such an interface. No conformity to ISO/IEC 8663:2025, to IEEE P2731, or to any other named standard is claimed.
