Geister-KompetenzGhost skill
You can do a thing only while artificial intelligence is helping, and without it you cannot do that same thing.
Kennst du das?Ever had this?
At band practice you play the piece only when the person beside you shows the fingerings, and alone the run falls apart. With artificial intelligence it is the same skill, present only with that help.
DefinitionDefinition
The finding, for one named person, that one skill is reproduced in a trial with a named support from artificial intelligence and is not reproduced in a trial of that same skill without that support.
Was es nicht istWhat it is not
Unlike cognitive offloading, the use of a physical action to reduce the cognitive demand of a task (Risko and Gilbert, 2016), a ghost skill is the finding that one skill is reproduced in a trial with a named support and is not reproduced in a trial of that same skill without that support. Unlike delegation skill erosion, it does not require that the person previously performed that skill without the system. Unlike the extended-mind thesis (Clark and Chalmers, 1998), it is not a claim about where thinking is located, and unlike deskilling following Braverman (1974), it is not a reduction of skill in a job. Unlike a generative ghost, an artificial likeness of a deceased person, this finding is not a person and not an image. Unlike the second skill, it is not a test that a named property of an output holds. The finding does not state that the skill is not the person's own, and it is not used to assess or rank a person, including a person who uses artificial intelligence as assistive technology for a disability.

RegelnRules
- Record the named person and two trials of the same skill, one with the named support and one without it.
- Set reproduced_with_support only if that skill was reproduced in the supported trial, and reproduced_without_support only if it was reproduced in the unsupported trial.
- Do not record this finding where the named support serves as assistive technology for a disability, and do not use it to assess or rank the person.

Für NormungsgremienFor standards bodies
Related literature: cognitive offloading (Risko and Gilbert, 2016); the extended-mind thesis (Clark and Chalmers, 1998); deskilling in labor research following Braverman (1974). No conformity to those works is claimed. The finding concerns two trials of one skill; it is not an assessment of the person's competence, honesty or authorship and is not for assessing individuals. Where it identifies a person it is profiling under GDPR Art. 4(4) and must not be the sole basis of a decision about that person; prefer pseudonymised or aggregated records.
Für OrganisationenFor organisations
