Nachlassende MüheEffort fade

MANITAI-DimensionMANITAI dimension: BRAMANITAI

After several sessions the same command at the interface needs less deliberate thought or less effort from you.

Kennst du das?Ever had this?

The first knots in your shoes take deliberate thought, and later you tie them without thinking through each step. At the interface you report that same lighter thought or lighter effort for the same command.

DefinitionDefinition

An experience, reported by a person operating a brain–computer interface, in which the same command, after repeated sessions, needs less deliberate thought or less effort than it did in an earlier session.

Was es nicht istWhat it is not

A 2023 pilot of long imagery practice reported a sense of automatization of the task. Effort fade does not reuse that name and does not claim an autonomous skill. Unlike automaticity in the autonomous stage of skill learning (Fitts & Posner, 1967), this term claims no change of skill, only the report that less deliberate thought or less effort is needed than in an earlier session. Unlike novelty fade, the report that a first successful control felt extraordinary and later felt ordinary, this experience is about the amount of deliberate thought or effort, not about whether the control still feels extraordinary.

Source: AUGMANITAI analysis of published first-person accounts of brain–computer interface use (BRAMANITAI research file, 2026-10-16). A 2023 pilot already used a sense of automatization for a related report. This entry does not adopt that name and does not claim the autonomous stage of skill (Fitts & Posner, 1967). ISO/IEC 8663:2025 is a vocabulary for brain–computer interface technology. IEEE P2731 is a draft terminology project; a glossary proposal from that work was published in 2021. This entry records a reported experience of operating such an interface. No conformity to ISO/IEC 8663:2025, to IEEE P2731, or to any other named standard is claimed.
