KernbegriffCore term
You see the parts of a shared job finished one by one, and nobody checks whether they advance the shared goal.
Kennst du das?Ever had this?
You want a club fair with many guests. Cake, sign, and music are done, and nobody checks whether they move you toward that goal. With AI helpers it is the same gap when nobody checks whether the parts move the shared goal forward.
DefinitionDefinition
The state of one group in which no check is made on whether its partial activities advance the shared goal.
Was es nicht istWhat it is not
Unlike metacognition in Flavell (1979), a person's knowledge and regulation of that person's own cognition, distributed metacognition failure is a missing check in one group. It is not that person's monitoring of their own cognition. Unlike metacognitive self-correction in a multi-agent system (Shen and others, 2025, arXiv:2510.14319), in which a correction agent revises the output of an acting agent, this state is not that revision. Unlike an oversight check, no named property of an object has to be examined. Unlike an orchestrator blindspot, the coordinating actor may still have information about interactions between subtasks. What is absent is the check on whether the partial activities advance the shared goal.

RegelnRules
- Record the shared goal and whether any check is made on whether the partial activities advance that goal.
- Do not record this state when such a check is made, and do not record it from unfinished parts alone.

Für NormungsgremienFor standards bodies
Source: SWA26-0015. Metacognition in Flavell (1979) is a person's knowledge and regulation of that person's own cognition. Shen and others (2025, arXiv:2510.14319) describe metacognitive self-correction in a multi-agent system, in which a correction agent revises the output of an acting agent. An oversight check and an orchestrator blindspot are neighbouring terms in this vocabulary. No conformity to a named standard is claimed.
Für OrganisationenFor organisations
