Im Unterschied zur Modusverwirrung, der falschen Annahme einer Person über den Modus eines Systems (Sarter und Woods, 1995), ist ein Zustandsanzeigewiderspruch eine Abweichung zwischen angezeigtem Zustand und dem Zustand aus festgelegten Daten, nicht diese Annahme. Im Unterschied zu visibility of system status (Nielsen, 1994), einer Gestaltungshilfe, die Nutzende informiert halten soll, ist er diese Abweichung, nicht diese Gestaltungshilfe. Unlike mode confusion, a wrong belief about a system's mode (Sarter and Woods, 1995), a state display inconsistency is a discrepancy between a displayed state and the state from specified data, not that belief. Unlike visibility of system status (Nielsen, 1994), a heuristic that a system should keep users informed, it is that discrepancy, not that heuristic. Unlike a technical state description, a description of a robot state by defined quantities, it is the discrepancy, not that description.
