KernbegriffCore term
SelbstabgleichSelf-referential grounding
Before you adopt it, you hold a result from artificial intelligence against your experience, your values, and your knowledge.
Kennst du das?Ever had this?
Before you adopt the proposal for the fair, you hold it against what you have lived, what matters to you, and what you already know. With an AI it is the same self-check when a person measures a result, before adopting it, against their own experience, values, and knowledge.
DefinitionDefinition
The measurement, by one person, of an output of artificial intelligence against that person's own experience, values, and knowledge, before the output is adopted.
Was es nicht istWhat it is not
Unlike the symbol grounding problem (Harnad, 1990), the question of how symbols get their meaning from the world outside the symbol system, self-referential grounding is not that question. Unlike grounding in conversation (Clark and Brennan, 1991), the work of establishing a shared understanding between speakers, this measurement is one person's measurement, not that shared understanding. Grounding in this name is the measurement of one output against that person's own experience, values, and knowledge before adoption. Unlike an ownership check, the moment of asking whether one can take responsibility for a result, explain it in one's own words, and stand behind it, those three questions are not required here. Unlike semantic ejection, the conscious rejection of a suggestion because its meaning does not fit what the person means, this measurement may end in adoption. Rejection is not required.

RegelnRules
- Record whether the person measures the output against that person's own experience, against that person's own values, and against that person's own knowledge, and record whether this is before adoption.
- Do not record the measurement when one of the three is missing, and do not treat a rejection as required.

Für NormungsgremienFor standards bodies
Source: AUG-0076. The symbol grounding problem in Harnad (1990) asks how symbols get their meaning from the world outside the symbol system. Grounding in Clark and Brennan (1991) is the work of establishing shared understanding between speakers. An ownership check and semantic ejection are neighbouring terms in this vocabulary. No conformity to a named standard is claimed.
Für OrganisationenFor organisations
Names the case in which one person measures an output of artificial intelligence against that person's own experience, values, and knowledge before the output is adopted.
