Paralleles GegenüberParallel counterpart

MANITAI-DimensionMANITAI dimension: ENTMANITAI

You treat one named AI system as a single counterpart, while at the same time it holds many conversations with other people.

Kennst du das?Ever had this?

You picture a pen pal who writes only with you, while hundreds write to that name at once. With a named AI it is the same when you treat it as your only counterpart while it talks with many others.

DefinitionDefinition

The state in which a person treats one named system of artificial intelligence as a single counterpart while that same named system, at the same time, conducts many conversations with other persons.

Was es nicht istWhat it is not

Unlike counterpart theory (Lewis, 1968), in which a counterpart is a resembling individual in another possible world and stands in for identity across worlds, this state is not a modal relation. Unlike the multi-tenant model named in NIST SP 800-145 under resource pooling, in which a provider's computing resources are pooled to serve multiple consumers, this state is not that architecture. Unlike an agent identity fork (Tom Jaejoon Lee, 2026, preprint on Zenodo), the divergence over time of persona copies that run in separate sessions, this state is not that divergence. Unlike a session, a distinct interaction period for one conversation (Tan and others, 2025, arXiv:2503.08026), this state is not one such period. Unlike name-and-voice continuity, the state in which a person addresses a named system by its name and hears the same synthetic voice while the model changes, this state is not that keeping of name and voice. Unlike agent identity persistence, the state in which one agent remains recognizable across sessions by specified features of its behavior or of its configuration, this state is not that recognizability. Unlike a pet name, the practice of a person giving a system a personal name or a nickname, this state is not that naming. The treatment as a single counterpart is what that person does, not an inferred profile built without that person's act.

Source: AUGMANITAI coinage (ENTMANITAI, 2026-10-16). Counterpart theory in Lewis (1968) uses a counterpart as a resembling individual in another possible world. NIST SP 800-145 names a multi-tenant model under resource pooling, in which provider resources are pooled to serve multiple consumers. An agent identity fork in Tom Jaejoon Lee (2026, preprint on Zenodo) is divergence of persona copies across sessions. A session in Tan and others (2025, arXiv:2503.08026) is a distinct interaction period for one conversation. Name-and-voice continuity, agent identity persistence, and pet name are neighbouring terms in this vocabulary. No conformity to a named standard is claimed.
