KernbegriffCore term
UrsprungszweifelOrigin doubt
For one particular thought, you do not know whether it comes from you or from the artificial intelligence.
Kennst du das?Ever had this?
After the shared collecting of ideas in class you do not know whether one sentence came from you or from the group work. With artificial intelligence the same doubt concerns a thought between you and the program.
DefinitionDefinition
A person's uncertainty about whether a specific thought, formulation, or idea comes from that person or from the artificial intelligence.
Was es nicht istWhat it is not
Unlike source monitoring, the processes by which people attribute mental events to origins (Johnson, Hashtroudi, and Lindsay, 1993), origin doubt is the unsettled state for one item between the person and the artificial intelligence, not the attribution process in general. Unlike source amnesia, it is not retention of the content without any source, and unlike cryptomnesia (Brown and Murphy, 1989), the person is not presenting the item as a new idea of their own. Unlike decision provenance loss, the missing piece is not the reason, source, or authority of a decision in a record.

RegelnRules
- Apply the record to one identified thought, formulation, or idea.
- Set origin_settled only when the record assigns that item to the person or to the artificial intelligence; leave it unset when both origins remain possible.

Related literature: the source-monitoring framework (Johnson, Hashtroudi, and Lindsay, 1993); source amnesia; cryptomnesia (Brown and Murphy, 1989). No conformity to those works is claimed.
Für OrganisationenFor organisations
Names the case in which it is unsettled whether a specific thought, formulation, or idea comes from the person or from the artificial intelligence.
