KernbegriffCore term
Epistemische HalbwertszeitEpistemic half-life
It is the time until your confidence in one particular statement from artificial intelligence is only half of what it was at the start.
Kennst du das?Ever had this?
On Monday you firmly believe a figure from your club chat. Two weeks later you believe it only half as firmly, and you do not call it false. With an AI, that is the time until your confidence in one statement has halved.
DefinitionDefinition
The time span after which a person's confidence in one particular statement generated by artificial intelligence has fallen to half of its initial value.
Was es nicht istWhat it is not
Unlike the half-life of facts (Arbesman, 2012), which concerns the obsolescence of knowledge, this term is the time span after which one person's confidence in one particular statement generated by artificial intelligence has fallen to half its initial value. Unlike radioactive half-life, it is not a physical decay constant. Unlike an epistemic upgrade, it is not a rise in the stated commitment of a wording, and it does not record that the statement has become false.

RegelnRules
- Record observed_at as the earliest time at which confidence_observed is at most half of confidence_initial. The half-life is observed_at minus t0.
- Do not record, in these fields, whether the statement is true or false. confidence_initial is a number from 0 to 1.
- Set is_earliest only when no earlier time already meets the half.

Für NormungsgremienFor standards bodies
Related literature: the half-life of facts (Arbesman, 2012), which concerns the obsolescence of knowledge and not a person's confidence; radioactive half-life in physics. No conformity to those uses is claimed.
Für OrganisationenFor organisations
Names the time span after which a person's confidence in one statement generated by artificial intelligence has fallen to half of its initial value.
