For one study, you set a region of space in which encounters are recorded.
Kennst du das?Ever had this?
Outside the club room you put tape on the floor and write down who passes whom there. With a robot, the same encounter zone is a region set for a study, and encounter events are recorded in it.
DefinitionDefinition
A spatial region defined for a study in which encounter events are recorded.
Was es nicht istWhat it is not
Unlike a collaborative workspace in ISO/TS 15066:2016 (collaborative terminology since revised in ISO 10218-1:2025 and ISO 10218-2:2025), the space of simultaneous tasks by a person and a robot, an encounter zone is a region defined for a study so that encounter events are recorded, and it does not authorise that operation. Unlike proxemics, the study of the distances people keep (Hall, 1966), it is not a felt distance. Unlike a handover zone, a region designated for an object transfer, it is defined for recorded encounter events, not for that transfer.

RegelnRules
- Record the region, the study's stated criterion for an encounter event, that the region is defined for a study, and that encounter events are recorded in it.
- Do not record a collaborative workspace, a felt distance, a traffic area, or a region designated for an object transfer as this zone.

Source: RM:0059. A collaborative workspace in ISO/TS 15066:2016 (collaborative terminology since revised in ISO 10218-1:2025 and ISO 10218-2:2025) is the space of simultaneous tasks, not this study region. Proxemics is Hall, 1966. The shared-space traffic area in Austrian StVO §76c and Swiss Signalisationsverordnung Art. 22b is a traffic area, not this study region. No conformity to a named standard is claimed.
Für OrganisationenFor organisations
