Definitions-VersionierungDefinition versioning
Like an app, every meaning of a word gets a version number – so you can later tell which meaning applied at the time.
Kennst du das?Ever had this?
At your sports club the training rule is the Monday version, and anyone who uses it says which version of the notice they mean. A program answer can likewise say which fixed version of a word's meaning it relied on.
DefinitionDefinition
The practice of giving each definition of a term a fixed, citable version, so that any text, decision or AI output can state which version of the definition it relied on.
Was es nicht istWhat it is not
The practice builds on existing mechanisms (owl:versionIRI, SKOS change notes, ISO 704 treatment of concept change); unlike document version control, which versions whole texts, it applies them to each use of a single term, so that the use can point to the exact definition relied on.

RegelnRules
- Cite the version IRI of a term, not only the term IRI.
- Never silently replace a definition; mark the old version as superseded.

Für NormungsgremienFor standards bodies
Implemented with owl:versionIRI and dcterms:isReplacedBy. Related article: KM Insider, 2026-10-08, 'When a definition changes: which version did the AI-assisted text use?'.
Für OrganisationenFor organisations
Makes it possible to show later which definition a policy, contract or AI summary used.
