Abriss durch NebengedankenStray-thought break

MANITAI-DimensionMANITAI dimension: BRAMANITAI

A stray thought, or something else on your mind, interrupts the command you are giving the interface.

Kennst du das?Ever had this?

You count the stairs, think of supper, and the number is gone. At the interface you report that same interruption of a command under way by a stray thought.

DefinitionDefinition

An experience, reported by a person operating a brain–computer interface, in which something else on the person's mind, or a wandering thought, interrupted a command that was under way.

Was es nicht istWhat it is not

An interview series on imagery training called such thoughts parasitic. A stray-thought break does not adopt that label. It is the report that a command which was under way was interrupted. Unlike mind wandering (Smallwood & Schooler, 2006), the drift of attention to task-unrelated thought, this experience requires the report that a command under way was interrupted.

The interview series used parasitic thoughts for a neighboring description. Mind wandering (Smallwood & Schooler, 2006) is the neighboring general drift of attention. This entry is the reported interruption of a command that was under way. ISO/IEC 8663:2025 is a vocabulary for brain–computer interface technology. IEEE P2731 is a draft terminology project; a glossary proposal from that work was published in 2021. This entry records a reported experience of operating such an interface. No conformity to ISO/IEC 8663:2025, to IEEE P2731, or to any other named standard is claimed.
